Becca Schuetz, Certified Child Life Specialist in Atlanta, GA

Every child deserves to feel safe, understood, and heard — even in life's hardest moments.

When your child is facing a medical diagnosis, the loss of a loved one, divorce, or another major life change, they need more than reassurance. They need someone who speaks their language.

I'm Becca Schuetz — a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) with 10+ years at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory Healthcare, now working directly with Atlanta families outside the hospital.

I work with children to help them process big emotions, make sense of scary or confusing experiences, and build real coping skills that last.

Parents come to me when their child is:

  • Facing a surgery, procedure, or a medical diagnosis

  • Watching a parent or sibling go through cancer treatment

  • Unable or unwilling to talk about their feelings

  • Grieving the loss of a loved one

  • Experiencing a family divorce

  • Facing any other life stressor

What is a Child Life Specialist?

You may never have heard of a Certified Child Life Specialist — but you’ve probably needed one.

Child Life Specialists are pediatric experts trained in child development, coping strategies, and helping families navigate medical experiences, grief, and major life transitions. We’re the professionals in children’s hospitals who sit with a scared 7-year-old before surgery, help parents find the words to explain a cancer diagnosis, and support siblings who are struggling to understand why everything feels different at home.

At Coping Solutions, that expertise comes to you — private, flexible, and available outside the hospital setting. I serve children and families through age 18, with every session focused on the whole family, not just the child.

What we work on together:

  • How to explain a diagnosis, illness, or injury to your child in words they can actually understand

  • Helping your child grieve the loss of a loved one — and knowing what to expect vs. what needs more support

  • What to say (and what not to say) when your child is scared of a medical procedure

  • Building age-appropriate coping skills and emotional regulation tools your child will actually use

  • Supporting siblings when a brother or sister is sick

  • Helping your child adjust to a new normal after divorce or a major family change

  • How to advocate for your child’s emotional needs in a hospital or clinical setting

Let’s work together

You don’t have to figure this out alone.

Most parents I work with say the same thing after our first session: “I wish I’d found you sooner.” Start with a free 15-minute consultation — no pressure, just a conversation about what your family is going through.

About me

I have over 10 years of experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist in top hospitals like Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory Healthcare. I bring a wealth of expertise helping patients and their families in the areas of pediatric and adult oncology, grief support and medical and procedural education. My dedication extends beyond hospital walls, with 13 years of community service at Camp Sunshine, an organization that combines recreation, respite, education and oncology support for children and their families.

I’ve also contributed to advancing the field of Child Life through research, most notably with my published article “Child Life Specialist Videoconference Support of Siblings and Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Recipients: A Pilot Study,” which highlights the benefits of telehealth child life services. Every child I work with reminds me why this matters and I’d be honored to work with yours.
